On the occasion of the Holocaust Remembrance Day 2020, commemorating the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps, the Jewish Museum Lecce presents the following events:
SUNDAY, JANUARY 26th - REMEMBRANCE BUS
Shuttle Nardò/Lecce, Lecce/Nardò with 50 seater bus provided by Chiriatti Viaggi (free), in cooperation with the Comune di Nardò and the Museo della Memoria e dell'Accoglienza, Santa Maria al Bagno (Nardò).
Programme:
- 10:00 am – NARDÒ
Bus transfer from Nardò (Piazzetta Via Cesare Battisti - Castello) to Lecce (City Bus Terminal).
- 11:00 am – LECCE – Jewish Museum Lecce
Guided tour of the Jewish Museum and the old Jewish district, led by Fabrizio Lelli (Director of the Museum and professor of Hebrew Studies, University of Salento). This will be followed by a meeting with the Israeli artist Adi Kichelmacher, who lost close family members in the Shoah.
- 3:00 pm – LECCE
Bus transfer from Lecce (City Bus Terminal) to Santa Maria al Bagno (Cenate – Nardò).
- 4:00 pm – SANTA MARIA AL BAGNO

MONDAY, JANUARY 27th - HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY
- 9:00 am – Jewish Museum Lecce
INDIVIDUAL AND COLLECTIVE MEMORY: REFLECTING ON THE CONCEPT OF IDENTITY - Meeting with the Israeli artist Adi Kichelmacher, and illustration of her Traces of the train of life. Between art and documents, not to forget exhibition at the Jewish Museum Lecce. Afterwards, video message by Moshe Haelion, born in Thessaloniki, deported to Auschwitz and refugee in Santa Maria al Bagno DP Camp from 1945 to 1946.

MOSHE HAELION’S MEMORIES: AUSCHWITZ SURVIVOR PASSAGE IN SALENTO – Temporary exhibition curated by Fabrizio Lelli, Director of the Museum and professor of Hebrew Studies, University of Salento. Afterwards, video message by Moshe Haelion.

PASS OVER INTO SALENTO – Theatre show written, directed and performed by Giustina De Iaco.
Esther is a Holocaust survivor. She tries to outlive her rebirth in the Displaced Persons Camps 34 and 39 in Salento. What was her destiny? What is it now? What will it be? She is seeking an answer to her questions in memories, in the land that welcomes her and in the hope of the promised land beyond the sea. She will find it in Salento.
RESERVATION REQUIRED.
This will be followed by a KOSHER WINE tasting offered by Cantine Leuci winery (Guagnano).
